I've loved this game series ever since the demo came out, and later wanted to make the HEV mark IV from the first game. Hopefully I will be the first to make a "real" HEV suit, not made of cardboard and tape, though this is how mine began also to get the shapes right.

Current progress

HEV mark IV is not under production, still in temporary cardboard to get the shapes right.
Crowbar and glasses have both been modified to look like in the game.

Very Nice game Half-Life Series was...

Loved the HEV Suit too...

I don't think you can make anything with the first Suit (Mark IV). It is on a low polycount with a few polygons and highly pixelated.

Is this on the Left
Image

The one on the Right is for Half-Life 2. The model is Mark V and is not the same... :cry

This is not a reference photo but more a promotional art photo of the first Suit.

I think that i have found a good art picture of the first Suit. I will search, but my archive is very Big, and because i am not Force-Sensitive, it will take time to find it.

You can do some search in Half-Life Wikia for information and some photos:http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/HEV_Suit

And check this link:http://forum.ebaumsworld.com/showthread.php?t=138163

Well, its not really, realistic suits, but you can always take an idea...

Good luck with it.
It is a great Suit and you a Great Costumes Maker and i believe ou will build a Great Hev-Suit!

May the Darkest Side of The Force be with you !

Well, this is a female Version, but because there is no special parts in female Versions. The only difference is on the size.

The good thing is, as you can see, that the chest controls (added with the noble sponsorship of Darth Vader), are very clear.

@Spartan375 - Yes, the one from the game is pretty bad, but I found a way to play the game in third person mode, and the suit is slightly better then. I have found some of the drawings that came out when this game was new, and they all look somewhat the same with subtle differences, so I think I'm just going to build one that has the parts I like the most, but will look true to the ideal look of it. I don't think I'll be going for that cardboard and duct tape look like so many others, but will hopefully get together something decend. Thanks for the kind words :D

Yeah, those suits are for a mod, so they are somewhat different, but the details that are the same are much easier to see in those photos, thanks.

I need to figure out whether this suit is metallic orange or not. I've always thought of it as metallic since it shines and look like metallic in the game.
Also I saw another guy with a HEV suit that was pretty good and also metallic, but I've never seen or heard of this guy before, so it's possible it's a publicity suit made by some guys hired by Valve, so if they made it metallic, then perhaps it should be?

Here's my early testout as Gordon Freeman. Some things will most likely change.

I figured out that the guy has long hair tied up in the back in the first game, so I won't have to cut my hair which is good since I need it long for three or more other costumes.

You sure have the right face to be Gordon Freeman!
Indeed, he has long hair in Half-Life.

I am 90% sure that the Orange Parts are made by metal.
In Half-Life 2 they looked like metal in every detail.
But maybe they are made for a synthetic sophisticated material that gives protection and flexibility.
Maybe some Half-Life Fanatics can make this clear in a forum or something...

The duct tape is a good idea only for a one time use costume...
Waste of time...

If i was going to make this costume, i will using for the Under suit a Riot Police vest, or a cheap, low protection bulletproof vest.(Or some replicas of those ;) )
Because it looks much like a Kevlar. Specially for Mark V.

I am 90% sure that the Mark IV HEV Suit have materials like Kevlar in the undersuit layers, to protect the uncovered by "metal" parts of the body and to offer protection and flexibility at the same time.

I also believe that for the Mark IV, a divers Undersuit, is going to make the Job. Or just some similar material for the uncovered parts.
In many ways the Black Undersuit, reminds me those used on Stormtroopers armors.

If you want, check those links out, just to take some ideas of possible materials for the udersuit layers.

I hope you made the HEV Suit helmet too! :)

That's good that you think I have the right face for it, it might just work then.
The mark IV suit didn't have as many uncovered areas as the mark V, and the mark V does look like it has lots of kevlar padding on it at the abdomen area, but this is covered by a gun metal grey metal part on the mark IV. The only uncovered areas on the mark IV are the joints. Thanks for the links, some of the helmets look somewhat like the helmet of this costume, so perhaps one can be made from one. Yes, I am going to make the helmet. Most people don't know whether they should make one or not for a costume like this, but I've seen a photo from the first game of him wearing one, so he did have one. Though he possibly didn't wear it on his adventures, all HEV's came originally with a helmet even though you wear it later or not.

The orange parts always seemed like metal to me too, but also looks as if they are painted metallic. Possibly they could have been painted candy orange and looked metallic since the parts are metal, but my parts will mostly be fiberglass and plastic, so metallic paint will be the best then. Well...They didn't really paint it anything since it doesn't really exist...

I yanked this off of my post at the RPF:

Looking at the hand plate, it looks much more like the light is being diffused over a metallic surface rather than plain orange paint.

Metallic:
Image

Plain orange:
Image

It looks as if plain orange doesn't shine back yellow but instead white, and the HEV suit shines back yellow pretty much and looks very much like the metallic car up there.

I also saw a really well made HEV mark V out there that was totally..game accurate?
And it was painted metallic orange. I have never seen the person who wore it before, and my guess is that if he was capable of making such a good costume, then he would probably have had training by building many other things before this, and would most likely be a member of the RPF, but he's not. Therefore I think that suit might be a promotional costume made by someone hired by Valve to draw attention to the games that he is standing next to in the photo, so it they were told by Valve that the suit is metallic orange, then perhaps that's the right paint for this?

I have see many costums from games in Video Games Exposures.
The common is girls in costumes next to each company kiosk.

I remember some picture from Asia, Korea i think it was, with many people, mens and girls, in costumes from Lineage, WoW, Dota, Final Fantasy, and many other popular games.

Is good for commercial reasons to make some costumes and hire some models to wear them as company, but if you are the costume make, you have the pressure of time, and of course limited money, plus that they want a costume fast and cheaper as possible.

So the quality of the material maybe fall and you don't have time to find the right kind of paint. The company wants only a costume to look like the one in the game. Not to be a exact replica of it in real world.
Promotional costumes and up in a warehouses (if they are lucky), in garbage, in the offices of the company or a lobby for exhibition (if they are extremely lucky), in a private collection, or in the makers warehouse.
There useful life is for how long?
10- 20 Days perhaps?

Maybe Valve spent some extra money and the costume creators make what exactly what they have in mind for the HEV Suit.
But maybe not.

Think it that way.
You are Gordon Freeman, and you are working in Black Mesa Labs. When the accident happens you picking up a crowbar and you looki on your HEV Suit's hand plating. What color it is?

Too bad most those costumes don't last long. Well, if I was Gordon Freeman and found a crowbar on the floor that was there for some random reason, then I would probably see that the armor is metallic orange, that's what I've always thought it was.

I don't think that the suit looks accidentally metallic orange in every photo, so it might just be that it is. Even though it's wrong, metallic is what looks the most like the suit in the game anyway and will look much cooler too.
