It was the dawn of the third age of the Blaster Builders Club forum, the year the Great Contest came upon us all. The BBC was a dream given form; it’s goal, to provide a place to share ideas, building tips and techniques. It's a port of call - home away from home for diplomats, entrepreneurs, and contest entrants…a shining beacon in space, all alone on the Net.

The year is 2008. The name of the event is the BBC/Kapowwe Custom Blaster Contest 5.

Good luck to all of the entrants!

Total votes cast : 166

I'll be in touch with everyone (starting at the top) about choosing their prizes. The first "tie" occurs at the point where we'll still have the last of the prizes, but I think we'll be OK without the need for a tie-breaker poll.

Congatulations to everyone who entered, y'all made some fantasic blasters! :up

RULES:
The entry has to be made using a toy gun as the base piece; this toy can't be a replica of an existing sci-fi prop design, such as the Battle Droid Blaster, a Star Trek Phaser, etc. Other than that, anything is allowed, as long as it's a "toy"--cap guns, water guns, Airsofts, etc.

The finished blaster also has to be a custom design, not a replica of a movie weapon. For example, an entry using a Broomhandle Mauser as the base piece is acceptable, provided it isn't converted into a DL-44/Merr Sonn type of blaster.

Finished entries need to be original, un-posted works.

Entries must be kept anonymous; posting which entry is yours--at the BBC, or any other forum board--will get you disqualified. Once the contest is over and winners are announced, you are free (and encouraged) to post as many pics as you want (wherever you want). A separate thread will be set up for questions, comments and discussion.

The competition will be open to BBC members only (including Staff). Since the BBC Administrators know the identity of the entrants, they are excluded from voting.

The contest will run from June 1, 2008 through September 1, 2008; this schedule is for the actual building, and entries must be submitted within this time frame. We will take as much time as needed to post and judge the entries, and then the winners will be announced.

Finally, the most important rule to remember is to HAVE FUN! :)

HOW TO ENTER:
There is no entry fee; each member may submit up to two (2) entries, with only three (3) pics per entry, please. The competition staff has the freedom to clean up and/or resize the pictures as necessary.

A general parts list needs to be included with each entry, however a full tutorial on how to build the blaster is NOT necessary.

As part of the entry requirement, one (1) pic MUST be of the original (unmodified) toy gun as a comparison to the finished blaster. We would also request that "detail" shots be kept to an absolute minimum so that the pics aren't overloaded with multiple/layered images. Please do not add in Photoshopped special effects!

You must also include our contest's name "BBC/Kapowwe Custom Blaster Contest" in at least one pic of the entry submission photos---we'd prefer it in the "before" photo, but that's not set in stone. For example, get a 3 X 5 index card, write "BBC/Kapowwe Custom Blaster Contest" on it, put it next to your creation, and then take a picture of both. The contest name CANNOT be digitally added on the image after the picture is taken, it must be in the photograph.

Once I get your entry, I will reply to confirm that it was recieved, and that the images were downloaded successfully. If you send in an entry and have not received a confirmation email within a couple of days, please email or PM me!

JUDGING/VOTING:
The entries will be judged by the entire BBC membership; all members are encouraged to vote for three (3) entries, whether they enter the contest or not.

As part of the entry requirement, all entrants must vote. (Remember, you can't vote for your own entry/entries; if someone does, they will be disqualified!)

Voting will not start until after the entry deadline has past, and all entries are posted.

Voting will be done using the BBC's poll system; our new software will allow for multiple votes, so this year you will finally be able to vote for your favorite THREE blasters! To do this, you must vote for all three before hitting the “submit vote” tab.

In the event of a tie, a new poll will be set up between those entries.

If a member has 2 winning entries, only the highest "Place" prize will be awarded.

All submitted photos become the property of the Blaster Builders Club.

It's that time again, and this year you will be able to vote for your 3 favorite entries, instead of just 1!

This is our 5th year, and I'd like to offer a special thanks to the contest sponsors, those who have donated prizes, and all of the previous entrants--without all of you, this would never have been such a success!

The rules and entries can be found HERE.

Previous contest entry/discussion threads can be found HERE.

Please note that we're using a new email address for the entry submissions this year.

Good luck to all of the entrants!

Time to break out the pasta and get cooking. I got two cool ideas I am going to give a go if I have time. This summer is going to be crazy work wise.

Wait, so it has to be a "toy" gun? Airsoft are technically BB guns, not toys, but they are still ok? What about replica guns? (modern/historical). How about full scratch built?

Replicas, air-soft, water guns, cap guns, paint-ball guns, b-b Guns pellet guns, are all fine. Just no scratch building or using non-gun toys/items, hot glue gun or a toy drill, for instance. Thats normally the way we do it. Compleat scratch builds are out, we have had unoffical contest for that in the past but they are not for this one. But I know last year there were two guns that about 70% of the original was cut off of, one of mine was that way.

Zman summed it up pretty good :up

The frist year we had a killer entry using a toy drill, which we decided to allow--never had that particular issue come up again.
